In this post I would like emphasise such significant healing properties of the plants that are part of our surrounding and lives.
My interest in plants stems from my University studies when we use to do control analysis of the plant chemistry and I was amazed to smell such beautiful fragrances that flew in the air. We could easily distill essential oils from the plant under pressure of distillation set in the laboratory environment and thereafter to identify them by specific analytical processes with the chromatography. The smell of Tolu Balsam was the prominent.
Through my study of plants and how their properties were perceived by well known scientists or philosophers in history. I read of Paracelsus's discoveries and his life work in many scientific fields from astrology, chemistry or medicine; he was the genius of Alchemy in medieval times, Paracelsus (born Theophrastus von Hohenheim} was a Swiss physician, alchemist, lay theologian, and philosopher of the German Renaissance..
Underlying Paracelsus treatise was the assumption that all Nature is "One Living Organism". Paracelsus introduced in his treatise the Doctrine of Signatures, the concept that the Creator has placed a signature (or an outer form) on plants to indicate their medicinal use.
The appearance of the plants is a gateway to its inner spirit and the external form of each plant reflects its healing qualities and medicinal use. For instance red plants are medicines for the blood and yellow plants are used to treat liver disease. Different shapes of plants indicate signature of the plant.
"The virtue is signed in the form, figure, corpus and substance," writes Paracelsus. "That through the signature the interior may be opened" and the "wisdom in the virtue" made known.
"There is a further necessity that you know such shapes in the anatomie of herbs and plants and that you bring them together with the anatomie of the disease. The simile, according to which you should treat, makes healing understandable."
The quote from Paracelsus from Doctrine of Signatures,:
" The soul does not perceive the external or internal physical construction of herbs and roots, but it intuitively perceives their powers and virtues, and recognizes at once their signatum. This signatum (or signature) is a certain vital organic activity, giving to each natural object (in contradistinction to artificially made objects) a certain similarity with a certain condition produced by disease, and through which health may be restored in specific diseases in the diseased part. This signatum is often expressed even in the exterior form of things, and by observing the form we may learn something in regard to their interior qualities, even without using our interior sight. We see that the internal character of a man is often expressed in his exterior appearance, even in the manner of his walking and in the sound of his voice. "
I want also to mention the cosmic or planetary influence on plants and on the plant energy of the DNA structure and metabolites. They are seldom indicated for treating a condition . The influence of the certain planet reflects itself also in an outer form of the plant.
